[ And Bruno will find that the door to the underground is much higher quality now, the boards that they'd had to pull apart now a part of it, so it's difficult to see where the door is, difficult to see that there's anything wrong.
It's still locked behind it, but Bruno will find that it's unlocked just for him. He just needs to make his way down in the dark, to the center of the spider's web.
[ Oh, he remembered alright. It was hard to forget somewhere as unique as that underground space, the unfinished tunnels, abandoned and coated in dust and debris, and only God knew what else. He lets Silco know he does remember, of course, and when evening hits, he'll head back to the tunnel opening.
Interesting to see how it's changed. The new door blends in, and he wonders who did that for Silco, though he won't linger out there for long looking at it. It's unlocked, and that's invitation enough for him to slip in and head down the tunnel. He doesn't technically have literal hackles to raise yet β someday, but not today β but he absolutely does mind that bloodstain. He might not be able to see it. He doesn't need to. The smell of blood hits his nose, and it jangles his nerves. He hurries along, trying to gauge if that was fresh or... ]
[ The blood smells toxic. Wrong. Like it's mired in drugs and oil slick, but it's faded by now. A month gone. It hadn't been cleaned in time, so it lingers, and Silco shows little interest in cleaning it up.
Even while the generators have now been moved into the tunnels, the lights are on, and things seem... alive. More alive than they were even a month ago. Things are small, but they have changed. Like Silco's already making moves, and waves.
A few locals give Bruno a look, before they move on, hoisting crates or chatting in a corner while they smoke. Silco's desk isn't far from the bloodstain (he hasn't constructed a proper office yet) and he's busy pouring over some ledger, before his head tipped up, to give him a look. ]
You made it. I thought you might have gotten lost.
[ Even fades, the smell makes him want to turn back, flee, escape the tunnels, but here's already here and there's already people looking at him and Silco is amongst them. Bruno doesn't give in to the urge to run, of course, although he may end up regretting that choice in retrospect. ]
I'm not sure I could get lost with how much noise there is down here now.
[ Or how the scents have all changed now that people are moving in and out. ]
You've, uh, been busy, huh?
[ He gives the men moving crates a sidelong look, wondering what's in all of that. ]
Well, the longer one waits, the more opportunity there is for someone else to step in.
[ He says it with a wry twist of his lips. He'd moved in quickly for a reason, after all. It was important to be the first one here, or he'd be adapting, and murdering his way to the top. Not something he would hesitate to do, but with so many eyes, he wanted a bloodless coup. ]
[ yeah uh too many cooks in the kitchen for helping people ]
Precisely.
This tunnel should have connected with one in Water's Edge. I'd also like it to connect to some of the sewer and maintenance tunnels for the other areas of the city. Allow us to move to where there is the most need rapidly.

Oh? Wouldn't that be useful. We want this to be as safe as possible, that's quite the important consideration.
I can have crews follow behind and cement the structure, but the digging is...difficult without proper equipment.
You would be doing me a service. You'll have to let me pay you.
[ this is how bruno gets a job ]
no subject
Wait you mean like as in giving me a job?
Like a real job?
no subject
Yes?
I don't accept labor for free. That's a fool's choice.

(unless it's Sevika). ]Right
okay
I won't argue with that!
Sure!
[ Wow! An actual job! ]
no subject
And scared]Excellent.
We'll talk in the evening, when you come by. You know where I'm located still, I assume?
we want to go to action?
[ Because he gets the feeling Silco doesn't mean the Valentia. ]

Mind the bloodstain on the ground. ]

Hence the need for rapid expansion, as well.

Right, right, rapid expansion, which is where the digging comes in, yeah?

Is it mostly rubble in the way? Like, the tunnel collapsed in? Or stuff like dirt? Both?

From what I understand about underground works projects, and digging underground, they always end up... taking far, far longer than one anticipates.
More mishaps, more problems, and nothing ever goes quite as planned.
