There is potential in that. He wastes his effort on the foolish and frivolous. Instead, it could be directed.

[ Silco's obsession with monsters has always been like this, this affinity towards something that was bigger and meaner than everything else around. Being the bigger monster to protect the broken parts inside, but he wanted others to be like that, too.

It proved something. Just like with Kaladin, who had taken his pain and shaped it into altruism. Silco wanted to prove it wasn't sustainable.

That everyone would fall along the same lines he did. ]
