Well, I don't think you'll have to worry about that path, at least. I don't like showing off in that way, since it's better to keep it under wraps until it's necessary, but I can defend myself. Takasugi was a fluke. An extreme one, considering, but I don't think it'll be surprising that I'm more cautious nowadays. Lesson learned to not let one's guard down, alas.
But the point is taken. I'll keep it to myself regardless, like I said, but it's still good to know the stakes.

New Eridu is a place where it should be normal, but it isn't. Between the government and TOPS (an organization for the ultra wealthy), the population is kept placid. Even with the dire state of things, the average person simply places their trust in them that life can continue pleasantly. That surely disaster won't strike their neighborhood.
Not that I have a solution for it, mind you. The Hollows are a worse problem for us than even the Katalyth here. But I've never liked how willing people are to just accept what they're told and live ignorant lives, you know?

I put an end to that quiet complacency when I took charge of the undercity. The leadership from before was a weak-willed appeaser who would do anything to preserve the "peace", which only happened as long as we were... meek. Quiet. And didn't cause trouble.
When I think of it logically, I think that upending the order in New Eridu would be disastrous. It's not an exaggeration to say that without it, it could very well lead to the extinction of humanity. Loathsome as they may be, it's those powers that keep the Hollows from expanding and keep the city fed. Lacking either could be the end.
But emotionally? Then I have to say that I admire your efforts.
Connected as I was, I know the dark underbelly of what keeps those comfortable lives afloat. For every casual day that could be spent at the movies or relaxing on our remaining beach, there are dozens of people that die for it. They mine Porcelume in the Hollows until the Ether Corruption kills them. People who are cloned and farmed to be soldiers so that all they know is killing Ethereals.
It's a terrible control. It's also why I worry when I see shades of that here.

It's not quite the same, but Vivian also feels responsible for the deaths of other people. It's not her fault, and I can't even call it an accident either, but she was shunned for it and carries the weight. It's why I took her in. She'd been abandoned, and honestly, she probably would have taken her own life.
I've seen how she struggles, and I love her dearly for how strong she is despite that.
So even if there were no consequences, I wouldn't want to add another ounce of guilt or regret to her heart.

The day I took her in, Jinx murdered several people on accident. I believe she was around 10. She didn't stop after that, either.
I think we have very different definitions of what would be dangerous to them. In Zaun, that is something that happens, just as novel as a birth.
